Collection & Delivery
We collect furniture from your home and deliver it back once complete. Serving Central London and surrounding areas with careful, reliable handling.
Kennington Upholstery collects and delivers furniture across Central London and surrounding areas, including Fitzrovia, Marylebone, Mayfair, Chelsea, Kensington, Islington, and Clapham. A two-person team handles all collections with protective blankets and straps. Typical turnaround from collection to return is three to six weeks depending on the work involved.
Getting large furniture to and from an upholstery workshop can be a real headache. A three-seater sofa does not fit in the back of a car. Narrow hallways, tight staircases, and London parking make things worse. That is why we offer a full collection and delivery service, taking the entire logistics problem off your hands.
Our team will arrive at your home, carefully remove your furniture, transport it to our workshop, and return it once the work is complete. Two people on every job, proper equipment, and years of experience moving heavy, awkward pieces through London properties.
Our Coverage Area
We are based in Central London and cover a wide area across the city. Our regular collection and delivery zone includes Kennington, Vauxhall, Oval, Stockwell, Brixton, Camberwell, Peckham, Elephant and Castle, Waterloo, Southwark, Borough, Bermondsey, Lambeth, Clapham, Battersea, Pimlico, Westminster, Victoria, Chelsea, Fulham, Kensington, Mayfair, Fitzrovia, Bloomsbury, Soho, Marylebone, King's Cross, Covent Garden, Islington, Shoreditch, and Hackney.
For addresses further out, including South West London, North London, and parts of Surrey and Kent, we can usually accommodate you. There may be a small additional charge depending on distance. Give us a call or send us a message with your postcode and we will let you know straight away.
Booking a Collection
The process starts with a quote. Send us photos of your furniture along with your postcode, and we will give you a price for the upholstery work plus collection and delivery. Once you are happy to go ahead, we book a collection date that suits you.
We offer morning and afternoon time slots, and we will call you on the day to give a more precise arrival window. We understand that waiting around all day for a delivery is frustrating, so we keep our slots as tight as we can.
Access matters. Before collection day, let us know about anything that might affect the job. Narrow doorways, steep stairs, tight corners, low ceilings, or restricted parking all make a difference to how we plan the move. If you live in a flat above the second floor without a lift, mention that when you book. We can handle it, but we need to bring the right equipment.
Preparing Your Furniture for Collection
A little preparation on your side helps the collection go smoothly and protects your home. Here is what we recommend:
Remove all loose cushions and set them aside. If your sofa has removable legs, take those off too and keep them in a labelled bag. Clear the path from the furniture to your front door. Move side tables, lamps, rugs, and anything fragile out of the way. The more space we have, the less risk of bumping into things.
If you have wooden or tiled floors, consider laying down old blankets or towels along the route. We bring our own floor protection, but an extra layer never hurts, especially on polished hardwood. For carpeted areas, we use shoe covers.
Check doorways and corridors for width. If a door can be taken off its hinges to give us an extra few centimetres, that often makes the difference between an easy move and a difficult one. You do not need to remove the door yourself. Just let us know it is an option and we will handle it if needed.
Protecting Your Furniture in Transit
We wrap every piece before it leaves your home. Furniture blankets go around the entire item, secured with straps. For delicate woodwork, carved legs, or exposed frames, we add extra padding. Nothing rattles around in the van. Everything is strapped down and positioned to prevent movement during the drive.
Our van is clean, dry, and fitted with anchor points for securing loads. We do not stack unrelated items on top of your furniture or cram things in. Your piece gets the space it needs.
On-Site Inspection at Collection
When we arrive to collect, we carry out a full inspection of the piece in your home. We look at the frame condition, the state of the springs and webbing, and assess the existing upholstery. We discuss the work needed, talk through fabric options if you have not already chosen, and give you a final confirmed price before we take anything away.
This face-to-face conversation is valuable. Photos are useful for quoting, but there is no substitute for seeing a piece in person. We can spot issues that do not show up in photographs, like a weakened joint or a sagging spring, and factor those into the plan from the start. No surprises later.
Delivery and Placement
When the work is finished, we schedule a delivery date with you. Same approach as collection: morning or afternoon slot, a call on the day with a tighter window.
We do not just drop furniture at the door. We bring it inside, unwrap it, and place it exactly where you want it. If that means carrying a sofa up two flights of stairs and positioning it against a specific wall, that is what we do. We take all packaging materials away with us. Nothing left behind for you to deal with.
Before we leave, we make sure you are completely happy. Sit on it. Check the fabric. Look at the finish. If anything needs adjusting, we would rather know on the spot than have you call us later.
Timelines
Most upholstery projects take between three and six weeks from collection to return, depending on the complexity of the work and fabric availability. A straightforward re-cover of a dining chair might be back within two weeks. A full restoration of a Victorian chesterfield with new springs, webbing, and hand-stitched deep buttoning could take six to eight weeks.
We will give you an estimated timeline when we collect, and we keep you updated throughout the process. If there are any delays, perhaps a fabric is on back order or we uncover unexpected frame damage, we let you know immediately and discuss options.
