Bespoke Headboard Maker London
We build headboards to your exact measurements in our Tottenham Court Road workshop. Any size from single to super king, any fabric or leather from our library of over 12,000 options. Plain, panelled, buttoned, or bordered. Prices start from £350.
Why a Bespoke Headboard
Off-the-shelf headboards come in standard widths that rarely match your bed frame precisely. A headboard that is too narrow looks wrong. One that overhangs looks worse. A bespoke headboard is built to the exact width and height you need, covered in the exact fabric you choose, with the exact design you want.
Our headboards are built on solid timber frames with high-density foam padding. The covering is pulled tight and stapled to the back, giving clean edges with no visible fixings on the front face. Buttoned headboards use the same hand-tied technique we use on our Chesterfield sofas.
UK Bed Sizes
We make headboards for all standard UK bed sizes. The headboard is typically built 2cm wider than the mattress on each side to allow for the bed frame. Non-standard sizes are no problem.
Mounting Options
Wall-mounted (French cleat). A bevelled timber batten is fixed to the wall, and a matching batten on the back of the headboard hooks over it. This is the cleanest option. The headboard sits flush against the wall with no visible brackets, and it is easy to remove for decorating. Suitable for plasterboard and solid walls (different fixings provided for each). We supply the wall batten with every wall-mounted headboard.
Bed-frame attached. Two or four bolt-through struts are fixed to the back of the headboard and slot into the divan base or bed frame. This is the right option if you do not want to drill into the wall, or if you move your bed around. We supply standard 63mm-spaced struts that fit most divan bases, or we can adjust the spacing for your specific frame.
Freestanding. The headboard sits on two floor-standing legs behind the bed. Useful for tall headboards or rental properties where wall fixings are not permitted.
Fabric and Leather
A headboard is a large flat surface, which means the fabric is on full display. Textured weaves, bouclé, and heavyweight linens all work well because they add depth without being busy. Velvets are popular for bedrooms and give a soft, inviting finish. Patterned fabrics work best on plain (non-buttoned) headboards where the pattern will not be interrupted by tufting.
Leather headboards suit modern and industrial interiors. We use full-grain hides that develop character over time. For practical purposes, pigmented leather is easier to wipe clean than aniline. Both are available through our workshop.
